English Floor Standing Jewelers Regulator Clock - (Super High End Movement)
This is a one-of-a-kind and rare Jewelers Regulator Clock. The dial, bezel, movement, and temperature compensating pendulum are all original (circa 1900.) The impressive and fantastic woodworking craftsmanship of its custom made solid oak floor standing case make this clock a highly attractive collectors piece. The case measures 72-1/2" high x 9" deep x 19-1/4" wide.
The 11-1/2" diameter porcelain Dial is surrounded by a heavy brass bezel which is 14" in diameter. The grid type temperature compensating pendulum with its huge brass pendulum bob (14" in diameter) is very heavy (approx. 34 lbs.) The single brass weight is approx. 10 lbs. Typically, these fine and rare clocks were extremely accurate to within a few seconds a month, and were hung, or stood, in jeweler's shops, train stations, or banks and acted as the public time piece where people set the time of day on their watches and other clocks.
After a recent service job, where a clock maker completely disassembled the movement, it was discovered that this is an English made clock. The pin wheel is of English design, and the movement has no markings at all (which was not unusual for English clocks of the time period.) The movement plates are very thick and heavy (which they have to be to support the huge and heavy pendulum.)
